[Men's Basketball] Conference Honors Announced for Men's Basketball
Cornerstone and Madonna headline the 2019 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) men's basketball honors, grabbing four of the five individual honors. Cornerstone's Sam Vander Sluis was named Player of the Year after averaging 19.97 points per game and became a two-time First Team All-Conference selection. He was also voted as Defensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive row thanks to his league-leading 15.5 rebounds per game and 2.57 blocks per game averages. Madonna's Dwight Burton made a huge impact his first year with the team averaging 21.83 points and 4.37 rebounds to earn Newcomer of the Year
Noel Emenhiser of Madonna picked up his first Coach of the Year award for guiding the Crusaders to a 15-5 league record and a tie with Indiana Tech for second-place. Lawrence Tech head coach Josh Pickens was chosen as the Champions of Character Coach for his commitment to the five core character values of integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership.
First Team All-Conference, Second Team All-Conference, All-Defensive Team, and All-Freshman Team were named. All-Academic (juniors or above in academic standing with 3.25 cumulative GPA) and Champions of Character Team (one player from each school who best exemplifies the five core character values) were also announced.
