Exclusive: New comptroller report shows corrections’ budget, violence at historic highs
A new report from the City Comptroller Scott Stringer’s office highlights a new reality at Rikers Island. While the city has the lowest inmate population ever, costs and violence are skyrocketing. The report takes a look at the 2018 fiscal year, where the Department of Corrections average daily jail population hit a 37-year low, housing 8,896 inmates.
