Gilroy: Authorities identify man killed in Highway 101 crash
GILROY – A man killed in a solo-vehicle collision in Gilroy earlier this week has been identified as Quanzell Butcher, 25, of San Jose, according to the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office.
The crash was reported in northbound lanes of Highway 101 at Buena Vista Avenue about 10:45 a.m. Monday.
The California Highway Patrol said Butcher’s early model Lexus veered off the freeway, raced up a grassy embankment and hit an overpass. The car then caught fire.
Butcher was pronounced dead at the scene.
It wasn’t immediately known why Butcher lost control of his car, or if alcohol or drugs played a role.
