[Volleyball] Falcons Volleyball Continues Strong Start at Kansas Wesleyan Tournament

SALINA, Kan. -- The Friends University Falcons volleyball team needed extra time in two sets to knockoff the Dakota State Trojans on Sunday in the first half of a doubleheader in Salina.

The Falcons got off to a slow start to trail the Trojans 7-2 early in the first set, but three kills by Remyngton Green (JR/Nickerson, Kan. ) helped the Falcons take a 9-8 lead. MaKenzie Glasse finished off the opening set to give the Falcons the 25-22 win.
 
The second set was back and forth with neither team taking more than a two-point lead. The Falcons pulled away late to win the set 29-27.
 
After a slow start in the third set, the Falcons made a late push with three-straight points but fell 25-18.
 
The Falcons again fell behind in the thrilling fourth set, 21-14, but this time was able to battle back to win the set 30-28.
 
Glasse recorded a team-high 13 kills, while Sarah Lazar-St. John (JR/Rose Hill, Kan. ) and Tiffany Hurd (SR/Gilbert, Ariz.) each added nine. Abigail Knittel (SR/Ponca City, Okla. ) led the Falcons with a career-high 41 assists.
 
In the second match of the doubleheader against the McPherson College Bulldogs, the Falcons dropped the first set, 25-19, despite scoring six-straight points.
 
Lazar-St. John gave the Falcons a 20-17 lead in the second set, but the Bulldogs rallied to win 25-22. The Bulldogs finished the match in the third set.
 
Lazar-St. John led the Falcons with ten kills in the second match. Knittel finished with 29 assists in the bottom half of the doubleheader, and 120 assists for the weekend.

The Falcons return to the court on Sept. 16 in a matchup with Randall University at the Garvey Center.
