The U.S. tally of confirmed cases of the coronavirus illness COVID-19 climbed above 9.38 million on Wednesday with infections climbing in 47 states, as hospitalizations set records in seven states and Nebraska was resorting to asking for nurses from other states to come and help address the surge.
