Jorge Alfaro Scratched Monday vs. Braves

Alfaro was initially scheduled to return to the Marlins’ lineup after missing the past four games, but he has been scratched from Monday’s contest vs. the Braves. He’s currently dealing with a hamstring injury, and there has been speculation that he would be headed to the 10-day IL. The fact that he was initially in the lineup suggests he’s getting close to a return, but the Marlins have been playing shorthanded for basically the past week. Chad Wallach will take over behind the plate move into the No. 8 spot in the lineup.

Alfaro was acquired before the start of the 2019 season as part of the trade that sent J.T. Realmuto to the Phillies. He posted a 95 wRC+ in 2019, but that mark regressed to just 71 last season. Of course, last year’s sample size was significantly smaller, so there’s a chance that he can rebound moving forward.

The Marlins made the playoffs last season, but they are not expected to contend again in 2021. They’re currently listed at +1800 to make the playoffs on FanDuel Sportsbook.
