‘Loving’ mum-of-two, 21, ‘smothered’ by boyfriend, 47, who hung himself, as family pay tribute to ‘special girl’
A MUM-of-two was smothered by her boyfriend who then hung himself, police have said.
The heartbroken family of Lucy Powell paid tribute to the 21-year-old describing her as a “special girl” after she was killed in her Birmingham home.
Lucy and 47-year-old Gregory Duhamel man were found dead at the home on on the evening of Thursday, January 27, West Midlands Police have said.
He took his own life after killing Lucy in a “domestic murder”, the force added.
Paying tribute, her family said: “Lucy was a kind, caring beautiful person inside and out and always put a smile on everyone’s face.
“She was a brilliant, loving mother to her two young children.
“She was taken from us way too soon and nothing will ever fill the heart-breaking hole in our hearts. Rest in peace our special girl.
“Loved by all, Lucy will be missed so much.”
Officers broke into the home in Stechford after being alerted by a family member when the pair failed to respond to calls and messages.
Paying tribute to Lucy on Facebook, one friend said: “Thinking of you all, absolutely heart-breaking. RIP Lucy.”

Specialist officers are supporting their loved ones following the incident.
Chief Superintendent Mat Shaer, Birmingham East Police Commander, said post mortem examinations “have confirmed our suspicions”.
“This was a murder-suicide and no-one else was involved in the deaths,” he said.
“It’s a truly tragic case and my heart goes out to Lucy’s wider family, friends and of course her two young children.
“We have been working with partner agencies to ensure the children receive all the support and help they need.”
