Kandi & The Gang: Why Fans Have Mixed Reviews On Phillip's Management

0

Phillip Frempong is being called out by fans because of his strict management style on Kandi Burruss' newest spin-offKandi & The Gang. Kandi brought Phillip on to help whip her staff at the Old Lady Gang restaurant into shape. But with Phillip being more conservative with his work style, he clashes with Kandi's team on outspoken laid-back workers. From a viewer's perspective, Phillip can benefit the OLG team while also causing more drama.

Kandi first hired Phillip to help organize her team at her eatery Blaze Steak & Seafood. Phillip is an Atlanta native with a long history of developing restaurants. After seeing Phillip do a stellar job at Blaze, Kandi asked him to join her at OLG and help get the staff in order. The only issue is the OLG staff has no respect for Phillip. The veteran staffers see Phillip as an adversary, while the newer ones can easily get influenced by the bad apples. While Phillip is working hard to try and get everyone on the same page, he is constantly at odds with the OLG staffers.

In episode 3, Phillip got into a heated exchange with returning OLG staffer Brian Redmond. In a clip shared by Reality Entertainment TV, Phillip and Brian have a war of words after Phillip tried to mediate a disagreement Brian had with OLG's general manager Brandon Black. While many fans applaud Phillip for being dedicated to organizing the OLG staff, others criticized his seemingly harsh style of management. "Honestly Phillip does too much idk how that attitude got him anywhere," one viewer wrote. Another fan questioned why Phillip, who works with Kandi & The Gang's Shawndreca Robinson, brought on when Kandi's longtime assistant DonJuan has a better rapport with the OLG staff. The critic accused Phillip of being the kind of manager "who feeds off of power trips." The critic noted that Phillip's management style is "the kinda management that makes people quit."

Since starting at OLG, Phillip has gotten into arguments with three staffers and even offended Kandi after he told her he refused to work with Torin Mitchell. Kandi is depending on Phillip to help get OLG up to standard. However, with a team of confrontational staffers who are always in drama, Phillip has a difficult job on his hands. Nonetheless, viewers think Phillip, who works with Kandi & The Gang's Melvin Jones, also use some work when it comes to his management style. "Being assertive or demanding respect doesn’t necessarily mean you have to talk down to people," one viewer wrote. Another felt like Phillip was actually the one "creating a hostile work environment."

As the debut season plays out, fans are getting an inside look into all of the disarray at Kandi's OLG restaurant. While she might've been hoping to give the eatery a good portrayal, Kandi & The Gang is only showing what can happen when the management is lacking. Phillip might be rubbing viewers the wrong way, but he has the potential to get the job done. With the support of Kandi, Todd Tucker, and DonJuan, Phillip can work with the OLG staff to bring the Atlanta hotspot up to standard. Watching the show back on television might also help.
