Star Wars: The Clone Wars — What Your Favorite Character Says About You

0

Star Wars: The Clone Warscurrently available to stream on Disney+, is beloved by Star Wars fans for good reason. The show fills in an important gap in the saga's history, providing exciting details about a period of time that had been hinted at from the very beginning of the Skywalker saga. Along the way, The Clone Wars features engaging and popular characters.

Whether they are established or newly created for the series, these characters have complex personalities that make them appealing. The characters are so well developed that viewers may even see aspects of their own personalities reflected in their favorite Clone Wars character.

Anakin Skywalker appears in most episodes of The Clone Wars, and as a result, is the most well-defined character in the series. Even viewers who were disappointed in the petulant, immature Anakin of Episode II: Attack of the Clones can find much to admire in this animated version. Anakin is fearless and fiercely loyal to his friends. His tendency to act on impulse may conflict with Obi-Wan's more disciplined and measured approach, but more often than not Anakin's "leap before looking" strategies save the day. Fans who relate best to Anakin are people who aren't held back by fear and who value spontaneity.

Few Jedi are as dedicated to the principles of the Jedi Order as Obi-Wan Kenobi. The Clone Wars reveals how deep that dedication goes by developing the relationship between Obi-Wan and Satine Kryze. Obi-Wan's admission that he would have left the order had Satine asked him shows not only that he loved her deeply but also that he refused to violate Jedi principles. Still, Obi-Wan doesn't allow his own beliefs to make him rigid, and his consideration for the opinions of others makes him an effective diplomat, preferring to negotiate rather than resort to aggression. His desire to do the right thing in the right way makes Obi-Wan a perennial fan favorite.

As one of the few main characters created specifically for The Clone Wars, Ahsoka Tano did not achieve popularity overnight. In the early seasons, many fans found her childish eagerness and obnoxious outspokenness annoying. However, as the series develops, Ahsoka matures and grows to become a beloved character.

Ahsoka retains her eagerness to help others, which is manifest in her willingness to work with the Jedi Order even after she justifiably lost faith in them. She also continues to speak her mind and is not afraid to disagree with things she deeply feels are wrong. Ahsoka's honesty and active interest in helping others appeal to viewers who have a caring personality.

The Clone Wars excels at portraying the clones as unique individuals, despite their shared DNA. Rex exemplifies this, proving time and again that there is more to being a good soldier than just following orders. Rex is loyal to his brothers in the 501st Legion even when this means disobeying direct orders, as was the case in his conflict with General Krell. Anakin comes to rely on and trust Rex implicitly, and Rex is dependable enough to deserve that trust. Even after Order 66 is executed, Rex manages to retain his loyalty to Ahsoka and warn her in spite of his inhibitor chip. Viewers who believe a best friend should be ride or die are drawn to Rex.

Many fans agree that Fives is one of the best clones in the series - an impressive feat in a show full of great clones. Fives is a well-trained, elite soldier, but he uses his superior skills to inspire his brothers rather than to elevate himself.  He is also clever and free-thinking. He doesn't follow orders without question, and he investigates when he feels something is wrong. This cleverness allows him to uncover the Emperor's conspiracy against the Jedi but unfortunately leads to his heartbreaking death. His legacy lives on despite his untimely death, and his discovery of the true purpose of the inhibitor chips enables many of his brothers to break free. Fans have ample reason to rank Fives as their favorite character.

Lovable scoundrels are something of a specialty in the Star Wars universe, and Hondo Ohnaka fits the bill. Hondo is his galaxy's version of Jack Sparrow: a wise-cracking space pirate who knows how to have a good time. He's charming even while being duplicitous, and considers the Jedi as "friends" even while holding them for ransom.

Hondo is also extremely resourceful when it comes to ensuring his own interests. He's shrewd when it comes to business, and is willing to switch sides as needed to ensure he comes out the winner. Though he's often acting villainously, viewers can't help but be won over by Hondo's likable personality.

Jedi Master Plo Koon is one of the background characters from the prequel trilogy who received welcome development in The Clone Wars. Plo is revealed to be soft-spoken and calm under pressure.  He also cares deeply for the clones under his command and refuses to abandon them or view them as expendable. Understandably, this inspires loyalty in his battalion, the "wolfpack".  Plo also shows a gentle, patient nature in dealing with Ahsoka, perhaps due to their history together.  Kind-hearted viewers are drawn to Plo's gentle demeanor, which makes his final betrayal all the more poignant.

Satine Kryze is a surprising character in many ways.  Her passionate dedication to pacifism contrasts with the way Mandalorians are typically portrayed in the Star Wars universe. She's fully committed to her noble ideals and willing to sacrifice anything in the pursuit of peace for her people. Additionally, her romance with Obi-Wan is one of the most unexpected things to happen in The Clone Wars, and her shocking death is one of the series' most heartwrenching moments. Though her dreams of a peaceful Mandalore failed, Satine's nobility and passion ensure her place as one of The Clone Wars' most beloved characters.

The Clone Wars reveals much about Mandalorian culture and beliefs in various story arcs, and Pre Vizsla plays an important role in these episodes. Though he is an antagonist, he has many admirable qualities. Pre Vizsla is fully committed to his ideals and is an effective leader thanks to his bravery and his boldness. Though he uses underhanded means, his purpose is to save Mandalore from what he strongly believes is the wrong path, so he feels his actions are justified.  He is so dedicated to the Mandalorian way that he accepts Maul's challenge even though he is clearly outmatched.  This decision proves to be tragic but earns the respect of viewers who value dedication and follow-through.

Die-hard fans of The Clone Wars can't help but shed a tear when thinking about Trooper 99. Despite his limitations, 99 does everything he can to support his brothers and is willing to do menial work just to be part of the team.  Although others mistreat and disparage him, he never becomes bitter. He even takes the time to befriend and advise Domino Squad, and the wisdom he shares enables them to succeed. 99 supports and helps his brothers to the end, making him a favorite with his fellow clones and viewers alike.
