New Star Wars Show Acolyte Character Details Reportedly Revealed
New character details for Disney+'s upcoming television show The Acolyte have reportedly been revealed. Star Wars has found its home on television with a variety of popular series such as The Mandalorian, The Bad Batch, and The Book of Boba Fett. Additional highly-anticipated Star Wars shows are on the horizon as well, each aiming to expand the universe, like Obi-Wan Kenobi, Andor, and Ahsoka. The upcoming High Republic-themed television series, The Acolyte, has proven to be the far more mysterious series on Disney's slate. The upcoming show will reportedly take place during the end of the High Republic era, a prosperous period before the Galactic Republic that proved to be a more active period for the Jedi.
The Acolyte was first revealed in April 2020 with Russian Doll co-creator Leslye Headland as the show's head writer and showrunner. In December 2021, The Hate U Give and Dear Evan Hansen star Amandla Stenberg was cast in The Acolyte as lead role Aura, although details of her character remain unknown. Updates on The Acolyte have been few and far between since, but the latest bit of information sheds light on a couple new characters that might be on the show.
In a recent report via The Illuminerdi, new character details for Star Wars' upcoming show The Acolyte have been revealed. A casting call from Lucasfilm has announced their desire for a Caucasian man in his 50s to play a character named Paul, who is reportedly a series regular for part of the season. The casting call also revealed their need for an 8-10 year old Black girl, preferably twins, to play a character called Miri. She has been described as a Lead Guest Star.
No further details have been revealed about these two characters of their relationship to Stenberg's Aura. Given The Acolyte's High Republic setting, it's possible Paul and Miri are Force users, and it will be interesting to learn more about their roles moving forward. That Paul is apparently appearing in just one season could mean Lucasfilm envisions The Acolyte receiving multiple seasons. To date, The Mandalorian is the only live-action Star Wars show to get a season 2, with others like The Book of Boba Fett and Obi-Wan Kenobi seemingly being limited series. Since the High Republic is fresh territory for Star Wars stories, it wouldn't be surprising to see the show renewed for a season 2 and beyond. The studio's preference for twins to play Miri is also fascinating, raising the question if it's because the show's plot features twins in some capacity.
With casting calls going out for these roles, there should be more official announcements about The Acolyte in the near future, especially since filming is slated to start this fall. Perhaps there will be some reveals at Star Wars Celebration in May, which is where Lucasfilm plans to highlight a number of their upcoming projects including Obi-Wan Kenobi, The Mandalorian season 3, and Andor. It wouldn't be surprising if they shared some additional details about The Acolyte as well, setting the stage for what's to come. Maybe they'll even confirm some familiar faces for the show, such as Yoda or Darth Plagueis. Regardless, more should be known about The Acolyte soon.
