Los Gatos woman killed in weekend crash on Highway 17
A Los Gatos woman died in a car crash on Highway 17 over the weekend, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The fatal collision was reported at 9:16 a.m. Saturday where the highway meets Idylwild Road, the CHP wrote in a news release.
A 27-year-old woman in a black 2013 Toyota vehicle was westbound on Idylwild and reached a stop sign, the CHP said. A preliminary investigation found that the driver then turned left to get onto the southbound lanes of the highway, which put her in the path of an oncoming northbound gray Ford Mustang that hit the Toyota’s driver side.
The woman suffered serious injuries and she was rushed to Valley Medical Center; she died just after midnight Sunday, the CHP said. Her name has not been publicly released by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office pending her formal identification and notification of her next of kin.
The driver of the Mustang, a 51-year-old Livermore man, stopped at the crash site. The CHP said both drivers were wearing seat belts, and that there was no immediate evidence suggesting that either was impaired by drugs or alcohol.
