Get to Know 'Kimberly Akimbo' Star Bonnie Milligan with These 10 Fun Facts! (Exclusive)
Kimberly Akimbo is one of the hot new shows on Broadway and we caught up with scene-stealing star Bonnie Milligan to learn more about her!
The musical follows Kim, a bright and funny Jersey teen who happens to look like a 72-year-old lady. And yet her aging disease may be the least of her problems. Forced to maneuver family secrets, borderline personalities, and possible felony charges, Kim is determined to find happiness in a world where not even time is on her side.
Bonnie plays Kim’s aunt Debra and steals the show with her hilarious performance. She previously starred in the Broadway musical Head Over Heels and has been seen in TV shows like Search Party and Escape at Dannemora.

- I share my birthday, March 27, with Mariah Carey, and it’s also World Theatre Day, kinda fitting!
- I grew up in a double wide trailer in Central Illinois, before moving to Ohio when I was 16.
- As a child, I had a very active imagination, and I used to “act in my mirror”, Pretending I was in movies, appearing on Oprah, I acted out all the scenes with myself, and sometimes even would pretend to do outtakes.
- My favorite TV shows growing up were from Nick at Nite, so my references were all from a different era. Get Smart, Taxi, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, I Love Lucy, Donna Reed, Dick Van Dyke… they are still my favorites! When I was Student of the Month in 6th grade, there was a get to know you post hung up and my answers to favorite actors were Gale Gordon and Marilu Henner.
- I have an older brother, Tim, who works as a Chief Warrant Officer for the Army National Guard. He’s been the most supportive and amazing force in my life. He and my Mom, Jeanie, drop everything to come and support me whenever they can. They always see my shows multiple times, and Tim was able to be there when I won my Theatre World Award in 2019.

- My mom just retired from the Post Office last year. I didn’t tell her about the mailbox moment in KIMBERLY AKIMBO. I wanted her to be surprised and she truly was! She thought it was so funny!
- There are two foods I truly hate. Walnuts & coconut.
- I knew every word to Reba McEntire’s FANCY when I was 8 yrs old, but had no idea that the song was about a high priced hooker and her humble beginnings!
- I absolutely have misophonia. I cannot stand the sound of open mouth chewing or heavy breathing, rough hands rubbing fabric…it truly makes me irrationally angry.
- I’m also a writer. I co-wrote a show for the New York Fringe Festival years ago, and I am currently working on a couple new projects with friends. Hopefully you’ll hear about those soon!
