Preview – Derry City v Cork City
Derry City vs Cork City – Friday 23rd June 2023 – KO 7.45pm – Brandywell
SSE Airtricity League of Ireland – Premier Division
Match sponsored by MacDermott, McGurk & Partners
The summer break comes to an end this Friday night as Cork City make the long trek north at the start of another busy programme of matches.
The Turners Cross side are currently second bottom of the league table, but Ruaidhri Higgins wasn’t buying that as he spoke with the media ahead of the game.
“They lost to Dundalk just before the break but they’d won four on the spin before that including against both Bohs and Shamrock Rovers.
“It’s a tough game but we have to look to start positively and we have to show the right attitude.
The City boss admitted that he still had a couple of injury concerns, but that his side has coped with similar issues throughout the first half of the season.
“Patrick McEleney and Cameron Dummigan both miss out against Cork, and Michael Duffy would also be doubtful at this stage.
“They’re obviously quality players but whatever happens, we’ll have a team on the pitch that is capable of winning the game.
“It’s an exciting time for supporters at the minute- we’ve had the European draw this week and the start of the FAI cup coming up as well- so there’s plenty of interest around.
“The fans were brilliant in our last game (against Bohs) and the atmosphere gave the players a lift as we pressed for a winner.
“I hope they’ll give us the same sort of backing on Friday night as we look to start the second half of the season on a positive note.”
The Candystripes have the small matter of a trip to Tallaght to follow on Monday, however three points on Friday is all the Limavady man has on his mind for now.
The game starts at 7.45pn and will be streamed live on LOITV.
