Upside down Wisconsin roller coaster triggers emergency rescue

0

A Wisconsin county fair roller coaster malfunctioned over the weekend, prompting an emergency rescue for some thrill seekers who were left upside down for several hours, WAOW-Wausau reports.

The incident happened Sunday afternoon on the “Fireball” ride at the Forest County Festival in Crandon.

Emergency responders pulled all the riders to their safety but their condition wasn’t yet known, the report said.

The Antigo Fire Department was summoned because the Crandon Fire Department didn’t have proper equipment to conduct the rescue.

"Crandon did not have a ladder at all, so that's why they needed our ladder to assist with that," AFD Lt. Adam Finn told the television station.

A witness who saw the entire ordeal told WAOW that the incident shows that the Crandon community needs to make sure their fire department is property equipped to handle such emergencies.

"If our department had that kind of truck, we could have had that down an hour beforehand, but I know things are expensive," Scott Brass said, according to the report.

"But it's needed not just for days like today, but for fires in big buildings, what are you going to do."
