Indian Prime Minister Urges SCO Group to Fight Terrorism, Help Afghanistan
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) should work together to combat terrorism and not hesitate to condemn countries that support terror.
Additionally, Modi urged the leaders of the Eurasian political and security alliance to support Kabul with humanitarian supplies and strive for the welfare of Afghanistan.
Modi warned the leaders of the SCO at their virtual Summit that Afghan soil should not be used to undermine the region around it.
The Summit was held virtually on Tuesday, and several other leaders, including Xi Jinping, Putin, and Shehbaz Sharif, also joined the meeting.
Prime Minister Mode said, “We also welcome the signing of the Memorandum of Obligation for the SCO membership of Belarus.”
He also said, “To harness the talent of the youth from SCO countries, several new platforms such as the Young Scientist Conclave, Authors Conclave, Startup Forum, and Youth Council have been organized. These platforms aim to channel the potential of SCO’s youth and provide them with meaningful opportunities.”
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization comprises eight countries: India, Pakistan, China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kirgizstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
This was India’s first time hosting the 23rd Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit in a virtual format since becoming a member.
