The Supreme Court of India has rejected a plea to terminate the 60-year marriage of an 82-year-old woman and her 89-year-old husband, an ex-Indian Air Force officer. The couple had been living apart since 1984, when the officer was transferred to Madras. The court also questioned whether an irretrievable breakdown of marriage should automatically result in a divorce decree.
