Teenage woman charged with murder in connection with fatal shooting, robbery in Ansonia

Police have arrested an 18-year-old woman in connection with a fatal shooting in Ansonia over the summer and say they expect to make another arrest soon.

Jada Artis, 18, of Ansonia, was arrested Friday and charged with felony murder, first-degree robbery, conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery and hindering prosecution, according to the Ansonia Police Department.

The charges stem from the fatal shooting of 30-year-old Abdul-Jalil Humphrey on July 14, police said. Investigators believe 20-year-old Sahvon Valentine of Hartford shot and killed Humphrey, according to police.

Police said they hold a warrant charging Valentine in the shooting. He is being held in state Department of Correction custody on unrelated charges and is expected to be charged in Humphrey’s death soon, according to police.

Police said they found Humphrey suffering from multiple gunshot wounds in the driveway of 124 Hodge Ave. when they responded to the area upon receiving multiple 911 calls reporting a shooting. He was taken to Griffin Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

At the time of the shooting, police said they were looking for two vehicles that were tied to the incident, including Humphrey’s Hyundai Elantra which was stolen from the scene. The other was a 2018 Chevrolet Malibu Premier that police believe the shooter was driving just before the incident. Investigators at the time said they believed at least one other person was in the vehicle and drove it away following the homicide.

Ansonia police on Wednesday said the investigation involved multiple agencies, including the Derby, Shelton and Middletown Police Departments. The Connecticut State Police Central District Major Crime Squad and the state Forensic Science Laboratory also assisted in the investigation, police said.
