‘The Voice 24’ playoffs power rankings: Rudi and Kara Tenae lead Team Gwen

0

“The Voice” season 24 kicks into high gear on Tuesday, November 21 when the four teams led by veteran coaches John Legend and Gwen Stefani as well as reigning champion Niall Horan and first-timer Reba McEntire enter The Playoffs. After the blind auditions, battle rounds and three-way knockouts, the coaches have narrowed their teams down to five and will add a sixth who is yet-to-be-revealed as a wild card pick.

As of now, Team Gwen consists of: two four-chair turns, Rudi, blocked by Niall on John only to choose Gwen, and Stee, blocked by John on Niall and then stolen from John in the knockouts; Tanner Massey, stolen from Niall in the battles; and Bias and Kara Tenae, both on Team Gwen since the blinds.

SEE Everything to know about ‘The Voice’ Season 24: Premiere date, coaches

1. Rudi
(Blinds: “You Don’t Own Me;” Battles: “My Immortal;” Knockouts: “Smokin’ Out the Window”)

Gwen has always been drawn to younger female vocalists on the show and though Rudi isn’t in her teenage years, she is the artist that best represents Gwen’s affinity. Rudi has taken on three songs in three different genres, something Gwen has made a long career of doing herself. In that regard, this is a match made in heaven and there is not a better coach to see Rudi through to a journey on the live shows where she could potentially get her breakout moment with the right song.

2. Kara Tenae
(Blinds: “Boo’d Up;” Battles: “Have You Ever?;” Knockouts: “Leave (Get Out)”)

No one on the show is performing R&B music with truth in their voice quite like Kara this season. She has her own lane on Team Gwen and in the entire competition and has stayed true to that path through three competitive rounds, unseating some really great artists in the process. The moment that Kara needs in order to announce herself as a threat to win the season is choosing a well-known song in her lane that she can completely flip on its head so that it makes the audience sit back and feel like they’re hearing something they love for the first time.

3. Tanner Massey
(Blinds: “Before You Go;” Battles: “She’s Always a Woman;” Knockouts: “In My Blood”)

There isn’t another male vocalist taking on the singer songwriter songs this year, leaving Tanner a unique path forward regardless of what team he’s on. Some years ago, Tanner might have been one of five or six guys like him in the competition and while it is good that he’s the only one now, the style of music is not as indicative of what’s successful on the radio right now. While the chances are still good that Gwen could be moved to keep him on her team for the lives, Tanner is unlikely to be the type of artist that gets enough votes to make it through to the finale.

4. Stee
(Blinds: “Sugar;” Battles: “Tacones Rojos;” Knockouts: “Pretty Wings”)

It wasn’t until the knockouts that Stee finally gave us a down tempo song that put his voice forward in a way that makes artists successful on the show. Because of the pressure of delivering an exciting stage performance, it feels like Stee is going to return to the uptempo vibes of his first two rounds in the playoffs. That is going to make it hard for him to have the kind of stand out moment he needs in order to convince Gwen to keep him around instead of one of the artists she’s been working with for longer.

5. Bias
(Blinds: “God’s Country;” Battles: “Need a Favor;” Knockouts: “You Should Probably Leave”)

The deed was signed for Team Gwen when Bias took on Blake Shelton‘s song in the blinds. Shockingly, it wasn’t that big song that gave Bias his mark in the competition, but instead his ability to outperform a powerful Jacquie Roar in the battles. Gwen has stuck by Bias throughout all rounds of the show, but as much as she may want to progress with a country artist, the truth she has to realize is that Bias is outmatched by a number of other country men in stronger positions on other teams and would not be a good choice for her to go with during the live shows.
