Louisiana crawfish prices, boiled and live, drops but still high after Mardi Gras

0

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) -- The average price for Louisiana crawfish, boiled and live, remains high at the start of Lent.

The price dropped $1.50 per pound this week for an average of $10.99 per pound for boiled crawfish, The Crawfish App said in its weekly update.

“Crawfish supply was up this week, causing the price per pound to come down slightly,”  said Laney King, co-founder of The Crawfish App. “But crawfish are still priced much higher than usual for the start of the Lenten season. Be prepared to spend around $35 for a 3 lb. platter of boiled crawfish this evening, and closer to $60 for a 5 lb. tray.”

The availability for a sack of live crawfish has increased to $315 for a 35-pound sack.

“While prices are still significantly higher than usual, experts are predicting the delayed crawfish season should finally normalize in March, and prices should drop by a few dollars per pound," said King.

The high prices are due to crawfish farmers statewide affected by a summer drought.
