Detainee found unresponsive at Oklahoma Co. Detention Center
OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) - A detainee at the Oklahoma County Detention Center has died after being found unresponsive in his cell Monday morning.
According to the detention center, Detention Officers found detainee Derek Strother unresponsive in his cell around 8:20 a.m. on Monday.
Officers alerted medical staff and began life-saving measures right away by performing CPR and administering Narcan. EMSA and the Oklahoma City Fire Department arrived and continued life-saving measures.
Officials say Strother was taken to a nearby hospital, but he was unable to be revived.
The detention center says Strother was born on October 27, 1992. He was booked into the Oklahoma Co. Detention Center on December 18, 2023, on charges of Second Degree Murder, Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, Causing an Accident while Driving a Vehicle without a Valid Driver License Resulting in Great Bodily Injury, 2 counts of Causing an Accident while Driving a Vehicle without a Valid Driver License Resulting in Death and Reckless Driving.
A cause of death has not been determined as the incident is still under investigation.
