Silver Lake community helps clear trees, branches after major storm
SILVER LAKE (KSNT) - Several Kansas communities were rocked by early morning storms on Wednesday, and many are picking up the pieces.
The Silver Lake community helped each other removing large trees and branches from roads and yards. High winds and rain were the main cause of the damage.
Highway 24, which runs through Silver Lake, was briefly blocked but quick work from nearby residents helped reopen the road.
"We do a little tree trimming work on the side, and some tree removal," passerby Brayden Lohman said. "Figured we'd stop by and see if anyone needed help with something because it's a lot, especially with older people being out here, it's harder for them to clean stuff up by themselves."
Many people lost power as a result of the storm. Evergy says 41,000 people lost power at the storm's peak. They say 80% of customers were restored by 10:30 a.m. on June 26. You can find an updated outage map from Evergy by clicking here.
