Mahle to streamline its business structure
Automotive supplier Mahle announced a new company strategy which it says will boost its efficiency and agility.
The company is calling its plan Mahle 2030+. It includes merging five business units into three to focus on electrification and thermal management, fully acquiring Mahle Behr GmbH & Co. KG and downsizing its management board.
“MAHLE is doing its homework for the transformation,” said CEO Arnd Franz. “Through these far-reaching changes, we will make our business ready for the future. We are accelerating the implementation of our group strategy which will position us as an innovative and sustainably profitable shaper of future mobility.”
Its aftermarket business unit will continue as a separate business unit under the name of “Lifecycle and Mobility.” Mahle noted this group as having an “established product range and additional competence in electrification and digitalization.”
The new powertrain and charging group combines the former “Engine Systems and Components” and “Electronics and Mechatronics” units to focus on electrification, electric motors, and intelligent charging.
The thermal and fluid systems merges “Filtration and Engine Peripherals” with “Thermal Management.” Mahle said it plans to continue expanding in this area, demonstrated by its full acquisition of MAHLE Behr GmbH & Co. KG.
The restructuring, the company’s announcement said, is designed to improve internal cooperation, create high-performance production networks and cut costs.
“The reorganization of our business units will not only significantly accelerate internal cooperation. It will also offer new prospects for locations closely connected with the internal combustion engine and peripheral components,” Franz said.
The company is also cutting its board by almost half as of the new year, going from seven to four members. Franz will remain CEO and take on responsibility for human resources. He’ll be joined by Markus Kapaun, CFO, Jumana Al-Sibai, transitioning to oversee “Thermal and Fluid Systems,” Georg Dietz, who will lead “Powertrain and Charging” and Martin Wellhoeffer, who currently leads “Electronics and Mechatronics,” will become COO for “Thermal and Fluid Systems.”
