Our teens were sick of sharing a room so we built them their own private pad for £250 using IKEA buys – they love it
A MUM has been praised for the “nicest room split” ever after dividing her daughters’ bedroom in half to give them each their own space.
Jodie explained that the teenagers had previously been sharing a room, but had reached the age they could do with some privacy.
So, instead of worrying about how to give them separate rooms, she and her other half came up with a clever idea to split the room in half – using an IKEA unit as a divider.
Jodie took to TikTok to show off the finished result – with one side of the room purple and the other pink.
Each side had a single bed, five drawers in the Kallax unit, a dressing table/desk and full-length mirror.
As people questioned how they did it, Jodie explained: “You just need to measure the room out and split in half.
“We measured all the furniture to make sure it would fit.
“It’s a very symmetrical room so worked great.”
“Is it actually called a room divider in ikea or just kallax something please??” one person asked in the comments.
To which Jodie replied: “Kallax but we then put ply on each side so they could have a mirror etc.”
She added to Fabulous Online that the whole transformation had cost them between £250 and £300, as they’d bought the IKEA unit second hand, “which saved a huge amount“.
Other budget-friendly items used for the room makeover included the curtain rail and curtain to divide the two halves, from The Range, the dressing tables from B&M and the picture prints in the purple side from Etsy.
There’s also a cute lampshade in the middle of the room to give both sides some light, with Jodie revealing she picked that up in a charity shop.
As for what the girls think of it, she said: “They love it as they’re teenagers – it gives them some privacy and space.”
As Jodie shared the video, the comments section was immediately filled with people praising the transformation, with one calling it the “nicest room split I have seen”.

However, as with any home transformation, there were also those in the comments who didn’t approve of the new look.
“Desperately needs warmth – looks like cells at the moment,” one wrote.
As another pointed out: “Mine would still moan they could hear each other breathe!”
