Famke Janssen Claims Marvel Has 'Never Ever' Asked Her to Return as 'X-Men' Character Jean Grey

Famke Janssen played Jean Grey in the original live-action X-Men movies co-starring Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, James Marsden, and Ian McKellen, but she’s unlikely to reprise the role in any future Marvel movies.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly recently, Famke, 60, revealed something rather shocking: Marvel has “never, never ever” gotten in touch with her about coming back as Jean in another movie.

“Every time I do an interview, it’s mentioned. It’s interesting,” she told the outlet. “I didn’t realize that was such a big part. Every interview I do, that will come up, and of everything I say, that is going to be the only thing that’s gonna be printed.”

“I should be flattered, I suppose, that this character has resonated with people. It’s been so long, but it’s nice that people are still talking about her,” Famke added. “I’m sure every single time there’s a new movie that they’re doing, like [is it] Doomsday? … it’ll come up again.”

Avengers: Doomsday is one of the next major MCU movies coming to theaters—it’s expected to release in December 2026.

Famke first starred as Jean in the 2000 film X-Men and then returned for its sequel and X-Men: The Last Stand. In 2014, she made a cameo appearance in X-Men: Days of Future Past.
