Are you using your phone wrong? Etiquette expert explains
Tengrinews.kz - Etiquette guru Julie Lamberg-Burnet from the Sydney School of Protocol has revealed the dos and don'ts of using your phone, according to the Daily Mail.
Expert Lamberg-Burnet is sure that you have used your mobile phone too often and incorrectly in many situations, which she has ranked in 10 places:
Texting during conversations
Taking too many photos
Constantly checking notifications
Phone calls at inappropriate times
Using phones at the dinner table
Being glued to the phone
Ignoring people for phone use
Texting while walking
Overly loud phone conversations
Endless notifications sounds
According to the expert, if a person receives a message during a conversation that requires attention, he should politely step away.
"In situations where you are expecting a call/message and you need to respond to it, the best approach is to excuse yourself from the situation and find a quiet place to respond. Ensure you indicate prior to an event that you are expecting a message/call and you may need to excuse yourself, for example, from the dining table. Discreetly excuse yourself and don't draw attention to yourself," she said.
Ms. Lamberg-Burnet also revealed a less annoying way to take photos at a social event: First, ask the hosts and guests for approval before taking or posting photos.
"If you have their approval, take a few photos at the appropriate time - choose a time rather than taking constant photos which disrupts the flow of social interaction and conversation - and ask the people you have captured to check them before posting. Be understanding if they prefer not to be included. Set your privacy settings to ‘friends only’," the expert noted.
The expert also added that you should not check your phone constantly while eating, and also not check your phone constantly, especially on the street, as this creates a danger for everyone.
