After the territorial defeat of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) on March 23, 2019, thousands of women and children who were associated with ISIS were interned and detained in various camps in northeast Syria, under the control of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), the military wing of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES).
