Last fall, Barstool podcaster Brianna “Chickenfry” LaPaglia caused a stir when she claimed that her then-boyfriend, country star Zach Bryan, had “blindsided” her by publicly announcing their split. She went on to accuse Bryan of emotional abuse and controlling behavior, claiming she was offered a $12 million NDA and a New York apartment if she stayed silent about their relationship — allegations Bryan has not publicly addressed (beyond telling his followers to “go ahead and come for me. I can take all the hatred because I’m not a child”). Things mostly quieted down after that, but just when you thought we’d put the whole thing to bed, Bryan went on a 7 a.m. posting spree, and here we are back in the trenches again.
In a series of since-deleted Instagram Stories posted early Monday morning, Bryan reportedly posted two screenshots of text exchanges. The first is a long breakup text from a contact named “Brianna,” in which the sender writes that she still has love for him. “I hope one day you can see past all the bullshit of your life and know I was always in your corner,” the text reads. The second screenshot, from October, purports to show LaPaglia outlining her “options” for the breakup with an unidentified third party: $12 million to “say nothing”; a house if she takes “the high road” and refrains from discussing “the non public cheating”; or a “messy war I air out everything I experienced and don’t hold back.”
It’s unclear what Bryan was trying to accomplish here, aside from maybe attempting to paint LaPaglia as the one who suggested signing an NDA. Whatever his intention, it quickly backfired. LaPaglia came armed with her own receipts, writing on her Instagram Story on Monday, “Boy is blackout at 7 am again shocker.” She then posted a screenshot of an exchange with someone named “Danny,” who she claims is “his manager texting THEIR OPTIONS FOR AN NDA.” The “options” in the text included a house and $3 million or a $10 million payment to “say nothing about zach” and deflect any cheating rumors that weren’t already public.
“I have not told ONE lie ever. … I was offered 12.9 million dollars to stay quiet,” LaPaglia wrote. “I was presented options on what I could choose. I chose none because I have morals.”
“End of story,” she added. “I’m so sick of this shit idk why he’s crashing out?!”
Hopefully Bryan puts his phone on timeout after this. Might I suggest a Brick?
The Cut has reached out to representatives for Bryan and LaPaglia and will update this post if we hear back.
