Only Fools And Horses’ star reveals he’s quit fame to work in a care home
ONLY Fools and Horses star Daniel Peacock has said he’s swapping his career on screen to work in a care home.
Daniel, 64, is a well known face on screens and he’s perhaps best known for his role as Mental Mickey in BBC sitcom Only Fools.
He’s also starred in various other movies and shows, including Cavegirl, Ghandi and The Comic Strip.
But despite spending more than four decades working in TV, the star has swapped the small screen to care for others.
It was about three years ago that Daniel found himself at a loose end after he finished writing the second series of his TV comedy Marley’s Ghosts.

His dad, Trevor Peacock, who also worked as an actor, moved into a residential home as a result of his battle with Alzheimer’s, and so Daniel looked after him.
Clearly impassioned by caring for others, he decided to then get a job at Hastings Court where he started to arrange activities for the residents.
Daniel explained in an interview: “Because my dad had been in a residential home, tragically, with the most awful disease Alzheimer’s, it was the first time I came face to face with this terrible condition and I wasn’t overly impressed with the care home.
“So when I got here at Hastings Court, it was like a very impressive hotel.”
He continued to tell MyLondon: “My dad died of that horrible disease but working here has made me a better person.”
In his duties at Hastings Court the actor likes to keep those he’s caring for entertained.

He also enjoys spending time getting to know the residents and taking them for lunch.
Daniel took one lady named Joan for a meal with his family after she was unable to see her own relatives due to them being on holiday, and he “didn’t want to see Joanie upset.”
The star has also impressively set up a memory café which family members can go to, to discuss their emotions.
Daniel has now been nominated for a National Care Award 2022.
