The United States reported on the disposal of over 40 ventilators supplied from Russia as part of humanitarian aid The manufacturer of these devices said that it did not receive official confirmation and “believes in the mind” of the American authorities
The Russian manufacturer of artificial lung ventilation devices (IVL) – the concern “Radioelectronic Technologies” – said they were “far from thinking” that the United States could dispose of expensive and demanded equipment during the COVID-19 pandemic. The commentary of the company RBC was conveyed by the press service of Rostec.
On October 20, a spokesman for the United States Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced the disposal of 45 mechanical ventilation devices (ventilators) that Russia supplied in the spring, BuzzFeed reported.
“We have not seen any official documents in this regard. There are publications in certain media outlets, but they can hardly be perceived as a source of official and reliable information. We believe in reason and are far from thinking that American officials could do this with expensive equipment that is in demand today in many countries of the world amid a pandemic, ”KRET commented.
FEMA said the ventilators were “essentially thrown into the trash.” In May, the agency reported that Russian devices were not used because of the difference in voltage in the electrical networks: there were no special adapters in hospitals. The equipment was delivered to warehouses in New York and New Jersey in case the situation with the coronavirus in these states worsens.
Russia delivered a batch of Aventa-M ventilators to the United States in April as part of humanitarian aid. The State Department reported that Washington bought equipment and protective equipment from Moscow. The Russian Foreign Ministry later clarified that half of the cargo was paid by the Russian Direct Investment Fund, the other – by the United States.
In May, fires broke out in hospitals in Moscow and St. Petersburg that used Aventa-M devices, and several people died. After that, the American states, to which the Russian equipment was delivered, returned them to FEMA.
Roszdravnadzor, in turn, suspended the use of Aventa-M devices and recalled the equipment for inspection. As a result, the department did not find a direct connection between the devices and the fires and again allowed them to be used.
According to BuzzFeed, Democrats in the US Congress were dissatisfied with the delivery of Russian devices. They reproached the White House for receiving equipment from a company under US sanctions.
KRET came under restrictions in 2014. US citizens and organizations cannot conduct any transactions with the concern unless the US Treasury issues special permission.
