The American company Regeneron Pharmaceuticals will stop testing its “cocktail” of antibodies on seriously ill coronavirus infection. This was reported by the press service of the company.
We are talking about the drug REGN-COV2, which is a set of antibodies to counteract the virus. US President Donald Trump was injected with this “cocktail” in early October when he contracted COVID-19.
Regeneron Pharmaceuticals said it has received a recommendation from the Independent Monitoring Committee (IDMC) to make changes to an ongoing study of hospitalized patients.
“IDMC recommends that further study enrollment be suspended for patients requiring high-flow oxygen or mechanical ventilation,” the report said. The recommendations are made due to the “potential safety issues and insufficient information about the risks” of the drug for people with severe coronavirus infection with lung damage.
Severely ill COVID-19 will not be injected with a “cocktail” until statistics on the treatment of other patients are received. REGN-COV2 trials will continue in outpatient patients.
The company sent this information to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Now this body is deciding whether it will be possible to inject a “cocktail” of antibodies to patients in case of emergency.
