Lindsey Graham wants Trump to declare a national emergency and build the wall 'NOW'
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) has made up his mind on the government shutdown.
An ally to President Trump and advocate of the border wall, Graham said Thursday he didn't know if Trump's plans to declare a national emergency to build the wall would "work." But Graham's Friday tweet makes it clear where he stands.
Mr. President,
Declare a national emergency NOW.
Build a wall NOW.— Lindsey Graham (@LindseyGrahamSC) January 11, 2019
Amid a seemingly never-ending government shutdown over Trump's demand for border wall funding, Trump mentioned last week he might declare a national emergency to get the wall built, and has since reportedly laid plans to do so. Analysts have warned Trump of the potential legal consequences of declaring an emergency, and Republicans fear Democrats may do the same regarding climate change under a future Democratic administration.
But Graham, after meeting with Trump Friday afternoon, tweeted that he's sure "Democrats don't want to make a deal." The only way to move forward is to "declare emergency" and "build the wall now," he said.
