Gda'nsk mayor stabbed on stage during charity event in Poland

The mayor of a city in Poland was in a very serious condition after he was stabbed while on stage during the finale of a large charity event, Poland's interior minister said.

Gda'nsk mayor Pawel Adamowicz was attacked with a sharp tool during the fundraising event on Sunday night organised by the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity.

Interior minister Joachim Brudzi'nski said Adamowicz was hospitalised in very serious condition. He called the stabbing "an act of inexplicable barbarity". A suspect was arrested, Brudzi'nski said.
