Brent Honeywell named 8th best RHP prospect in baseball

And promptly gets roasted by Jake Bauers

MLB Pipeline has begun rolling out their prospect rankings and are starting with the top ten right-handed pitching prospects in baseball.

Brent Honeywell, who has been featured on their prospect rankings for the past few years, has once again made the cut, coming in at eighth overall.

Honeywell missed all of the 2018 season after having undergone the knife last spring. Honeywell had been in line to compete for a spot in the Rays starting rotation and likely would have succeeded, as the Rays rotation was in shambles on Opening Day.

Honeywell was also deemed one of the prospects with the best command of the group, as well having the most to prove.

Most To Prove: Honeywell Honeywell seemed like a lock for the Rays rotation after a strong 2017 season, during which he was MVP of the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game and helped Durham win the Triple-A national championship. Then he blew out his elbow while throwing batting practice early last spring, requiring Tommy John surgery in February that cost him all of 2018.

Former Ray, Jake Bauers, took the opportunity to roast his former minor league teammate, with Honeywell being featured on a prospect list entering yet another season.

In December, Honeywell started throwing off a mound for the first time since having the surgery performed and is on schedule in terms of his rehab. He is currently projected to be ready in the Summer and could possibly be promoted to the majors in late July or early August.
