New York Democratic Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand plans to run for president

0

U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, a Democrat from New York, said Tuesday evening she is going to explore running for president. The senator said on CBS Corp.'s "The Late Show With Stephen Colbert" that she planned to file paperwork for a presidential exploratory committee Tuesday night to seek the 2020 nomination for president. "I am going to run for president of the United States because as a young mom, I am going to fight for other people's kids as hard as I'm going to fight for my own," Gillibrand told Colbert. Gillibrand was appointed to the U.S. Senate in 2009 to replace Hillary Clinton when she became secretary of state, then won a special election to retain the seat in 2010 and a regular election in 2012. Gillibrand was re-elected in 2018, and told voters at the time that she would serve her entire six-year term if elected. Gillibrand is one of several Democrats considering a presidential run in 2020.
