[Men's Basketball] Mangas, Maxwell Combine for 50 in Win at Grace

WINONA LAKE, Ind. – Kyle Mangas and Evan Maxwell paced No. 3 Indiana Wesleyan University men’s basketball in an 81-76 win on the road at Grace (Ind.). The pair scored 50 of the 81 Wildcat points as Indiana Wesleyan has won seven straight games.


WIRE-TO-WIRE

Kyle Mangas and Canaan Coffey hit 3-pointers in the opening minute of the game to build a quick lead as Indiana Wesleyan did not trail the entire game. IWU led 39-35 at halftime and held 11-point leads in both halves that accounted for the highest advantage of the night.


ALL-AMERICAN PERFORMANCES

The Wildcats’ two All-Americans – Mangas and Maxwell – dominated play throughout the evening. The pair scored 50 points on 18-of-28 shooting. Mangas finished with a game-best 27 points on 9-of-13 shooting along with 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals, and 2 blocked shots. Maxwell added 23 points on 9-of-15 shooting as well as a game-high 8 rebounds.


TAKING ADVANTAGE

The Lancers committed 16 turnovers to the Wildcats’ 11. However, the Wildcats took advantage of the miscues and outscored the host 18-5 in points off turnovers.


ON A ROLL

Indiana Wesleyan has won seven straight games in the series vs. Grace and 19 of the past 21 meetings dating back to 2009. IWU has won six straight on the road in the Orthopedic Capital Center.

“Any road win in the Crossroads League is a good win. It wasn’t pretty at time but you have to earn these. Tonight, we earned it.”


NEXT FOR THE WILDCATS

Indiana Wesleyan hosts No. 13 Marian (Ind.) on Saturday in the second game of the men’s-women’s doubleheader. Tip is scheduled for approximately 3 p.m. in Luckey Arena.
