Final Score: Warriors eat Nuggets in Denver, 142-111

0

The champs broke the franchise record for most three-pointers in a quarter and never looked back, seizing the West’s #1 seed from Denver.

Did you know the Golden State Warriors have the best record in the West? That’s right folks, they’re in the top spot after smacking the Denver Nuggets around, 141-111. The Nuggets got blitzed from the start and never recovered as the back-to-back champs cruised the entire second half. This was Denver’s first home loss since November 13th (a 12-game winning streak).

Klay Thompson and Steph Curry had 31 points apiece while Kevin Durant added 27 points. Draymond Green had 13 assists and a team high +41 plus/minus.

First Half

Denver scored 38 points in the first quarter at home...and were down 13. That’s right folks, the champs ripped off 51 points to open the game, including drilling a franchise record 10 triples in the quarter.

The second quarter wasn’t quite as flammable for the champs, unless you count Draymond Green’s emotions as he picked up a tech.

  • Durant had 20 points with four treys.
  • Thompson 18 points with four treys.
  • Curry had 14 points with four treys.

Jamal Murray refused to let the Nuggets get completely left in the rear view mirror early, ripping off 21 points of his own.

The Dubs led by as much as 23 early on, and only had two turnovers. Couldn’t ask for a better start, eh Dub Nation?

Warriors 79, Nuggets 60

Second Half

The third quarter was led by championship level defense from Golden State. They choked out Denver’s offense with heady rotations and timely physicality. On the other end the Warriors three snipers took turns eating Nuggets like they were Clemson at Trump’s fast food inspired White House party.

Thompson finished with FOUR DUNKS. When you have the normally ground-bound Thompson yamming it four times in a single game, you know the Warriors are locked in. Murray was silenced after his 21-point first half; he didn’t score a single point in the second half.

Malik Beasley led the Nuggets with 22 points, while NBA Twitter’s favorite big man Nikola Jokic was shackled to 17 points and 8 rebounds.

Kevon Looney picked up a career high in rebounds with 12.

Finally, disenchanted Warriors fans can breathe easy. The Warriors lead the West again (yay). Crazy that the Dubs are doing it without playing a single game with the real starting 5, huh?

The Dubs play again tomorrow, thankfully they got some rest in the second half of this game.
