4 top police chiefs may be forced out as IGP Adamu takes over from Idris (see names and positions)
At ease four deputy inspectors-general of police may be on their way out of Nigeria’s law enforcement agency with Ibrahim Idris, the Inspector-General (IG), whose tenure ended with his retirement on Tuesday, January 15.
The Punch reports that the forced retirement of the four DIGs, who are part of the management team of the police, would be to pave way for the new IGP, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, to begin the running of the affairs of the organisation.
According to the report, those that might be affected by the reorganisation include DIG Maigari Dikko who is in charge of department of finance and administration; DIG Joshuak Habila, department of operations; DIG Emmanuel Inyang, information and communications technology; and DIG Agboola Oshodi-Glover, logistics and supply.

The report quoted police sources as saying that DIGs Mohammed Katsina (research and planning); Sani Mohammed (training and development); and Peace Madueke -Abdallah (federal criminal investigation and intelligence) who were promoted late in 2018, could survive the impending purge of the Police Management Team.
“The three DIGs were on the same rank as Adamu last year. In fact, Abdallah was a commissioner of police the same time the acting IG was also a CP, so they were almost on the same level.
“By virtue of this fact, the new police boss may include them in his management team and save their career from sudden death,” the source said.
Abdallah, it was learnt, has about six years to retire and could be the worst casualty of the forced retirement if Adamu decides to send all the police management team members away.

It was learnt that the IGP possessed the power to retain the management team if he so desires, but he would have to write to the Police Service Commission (PSC) about his chosen team members.
Legit.ng earlier reported that the former assistant inspector general of police, Abubakar Mohammed Adamu, took over as the new police boss after crucial meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Aso Rock Villa on Tuesday, January 15.
Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) berated the outgoing Nigeria Police Force boss, Ibrahim Idris, describing his tenure as shameful and partisan.
In a statement sent to Legit.ng on Tuesday, January 15, by the national publicity secretary of the PDP, Kola Ologbodiyan, the party stated that former IGP Idris, must be held accountable for all the atrocities he committed while in office.
“Idris will be remembered as the only IGP in our political history, who surrendered the responsibilities of his exalted office to the whims and caprices of politicians who share courtesies with the Buhari presidency."
