Yobe governor directs state hospital to offer free kidney dialysis for indigenes

Governor Ibrahim Gaidam of Yobe state has directed the Yobe State University Teaching Hospital, Damaturu to offer free kidney dialysis services for patients who are indigenes of the state, Daily Trust reports.

Legit.ng gathered that Mala Musti, the state commissioner for home affairs, information and culture, disclosed this on Tuesday, January 15, shortly after the State Executive Council meeting presided over the governor in Damaturu.

Cases of kidney failure have been very serious in Gashua and Nguru axis, a situation that prompted the governor to give the directive.

He said the council has also took a far-reaching decision with the approval of over N4 billion for the execution of various projects in the state.

According to the commissioner, some of the projects, include; the supply of 20 Nos. of Toyota Hilux 4WD for the support of security at the cost of N480,000,000; the construction of an additional three storey hostel building for female at the Yobe State University at the cost of N244,355,153.05.

Musti also revealed that the council has approved N585,516,507.78 for the procurement of an additional 1.5T MRI machine for the state Teaching Hospital Damaturu.

The 48-hour surgery performed on one 26-year old Ali Iliyasu following a brain disorder after a fatal accident was carried out by five Kano-based medical doctors.

Speaking on the procedure, a neuro-surgeon consultant, Dr. Shu’aibu Sule Dambatta, said the successful brain-open surgery was effected after 11 months of fruitless appointment with different facilities.
