PDP crossing the line by launching personal attacks on Buhari - Presidency

- The presidency faults what it describes as personalised attacks by the PDP on President Muhammadu Buhari

The presidency has said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is crossing the line by launching personalised attacks on President Muhammadu Buhari.

Garba Shehu, senior special assistant on media and publicity to the president, in a statement on Tuesday, January 15, accused the PDP of engaging in activities capable of harming Nigeria’s democratic system, The Cable reports.

He condemned the verbal attacks by the opposition on Buhari and the federal government, noting that the attacks were unnecessary.

“We read the various statements issued in the press by the opposition, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), with the latest personalizing their attacks on President Muhammadu Buhari,”Garba Shehu said.

“This attack is uncalled on the administration that crosses the line in a democracy. A call for disobedience to government is a call to anarchy and should not be called opposition politics.

“Seeing people go down as the PDP and its leaders are heading to in the elections is pitiful but to seek to bring down the roof on everyone is tragic, selfish and the height of desperation.

He said the activities of the PDP were not in agreement with the feelings of citizens across the whole nation.

Shehu said the PDP is sinking deeper and deeper into the oblivion as it was losing memberships in droves. The presidential spokesperson described the attack by the opposition on the president as crude and disgraceful.

Meanwhile, the PDP has alleged that the APC wants the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen, replaced by another CJN to pave the way for rigging of the general elections.

The party’s spokesperson, Kola Ologbondiyan, in a statement on Tuesday, January 15, claimed the APC was intending to appoint a CJN that would be used to curtail freedom of expression and silence opposition members, Channels TV reports.

The PDP spokesperson accused the federal government of attempting to stifle the judiciary and erode freedom of speech in the country.
