Late Emir of Lafia: Igbo community pays condolence, declares 1-day mourning

Igbo Community Association in Nasarawa state has condoled with Lafia Emirate Council, and declared one day of mourning in honour of the late Emir, His Royal Highness Isa Mustapha Agwali 1.
A statement signed by its president, Cyril Ibe, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday, January 15, in Lafia, described the late Emir as a pragmatic and exemplary leader.
According to the statement, the late paramount ruler was a father to all who live and trade in Nasarawa state, regardless of religion and ethnic affiliation.

“We, the Igbos, are in mournful mood to show our last respect to a revered departed royal father, and that is why we closed our businesses today in honour of the late emir.
“The late emir was good and kind to Igbo people. He assisted many Igbos in dire need of employment and admission, into various institutions of higher learning.
“We are using this opportunity to condole with Lafia Emirate Council, Nasarawa state and the nation at large, on this irreparable loss,” Iba said in the statement.
NAN reports that the late emir died on January 11, 2019, aged 84.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Alhaji Isa Mustapha Agwai I, had died at the age of 84.
His death was confirmed by Alhaji Sule Abubakar, the “Ajiyan-Lafia” in Nasarawa state.
According to the senior cabinet member of the emirate, the emir died on Thursday, January 10, at a Turkish Teaching hospital in Abuja following a protracted illness.
He said the emir was coronated on May 28, 1974 and recently marked his 44th anniversary on the throne. The late monarch is survived by three wives and two children.

Also, President Muhammadu Buhari expressed sadness over the news of the passing of the emir of Lafia.
The president, in a statement on Thursday, January 10, by his senior special assistant on media and publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, extended heartfelt commiserations to Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura on the demise of the emir.
He also commiserated with the Lafia Emirate Council, the people of Lafia and Nasarawa state on the passage of the highly respected monarch who ascended the throne of his ancestors in 1974.
