May must "shift red lines" to secure a new Brexit deal

0

A leading Conservative remainer has said Theresa May must shift her preconditions if she's to get a new deal on the UK's future relationship with the European Union.

Charles Tannock from the European Conservative and Reformists Group told Good Morning Europe that a softer Brexit may win a majority in the House of Commons, though he preferred a second referendum.

"She's already reinstated her red lines as being there still. Unless she shifts on that, I just cannot see how things can change because it's quite clear to me that EU 27 are not going to reopen the legal texts or the withdrawal agreement, they may tweak the political declaration. So if she were to shift the red lines and go for a softer Brexit, that might command a majority in the House of Commons. But of course people like me who are strong remainers and my kindred spirits are campaigning for a People's Vote, a second referendum."

"I think the chances of a no deal have slightly risen since last night because clearly it's very hard to see where the solution now lies. I'm hoping there'll be either a pivot to a Norway deal or a People's Vote."
