Senate adjourns sitting till January 17 to honour late Abayomi Adeola

- The Senate on Wednesday, January 16, resumed and held its plenary for a few minutes

- The lawmakers later adjourned their sitting to the next day to honour later Abayomi Adeola, member of House of Representative

- Abayomi recently died at St. Nicholas Hospital in Lagos after a brief illness

The Nigerian Senate on Wednesday, January 16, resumed and held its plenary for few minutes after which the lawmakers adjourned their sitting to the next day based on the demise of a member of House of Representative, Abayomi Adeola.

The adjournment followed a motion by Francis Alimikhena who prayed his colleagues to postpone plenary in honour of late Adeola who died on Sunday, December 30, 2018.

Abayomi, who represented Ibeju Lekki federal constituency of Lagos state, died at St. Nicholas Hospital in Lagos after a brief illness.

Alimikhena also prayed his colleagues to observe a one-minute silence in honour of the deceased.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that the Senate on Thursday, December 20, adjourned its plenary to Wednesday, January 16, 2019.

The sequel to a motion moved to that effect by the Senate leader, Senator Ahmad Lawan, and seconded by Senate minority whip, Senator Philip Aduda.

The upper chamber had, over the week, been heavily engaged with legislative duties despite the strike action and protest embarked upon by the National Assembly staff.
