Kennedy: Most ‘Disturbing’ Part Of Barr Testimony Was ‘Uncertainty’ Around Public Release Of Mueller Report
Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) said he thought Attorney General nominee William Barr performed well during his hearings on Tuesday, but he did voice some discomfort with Barr’s uncertainty on whether or not he would release Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report to the public.
“The most interesting part of it, maybe the most disturbing part of it—it’s not Mr. Barr’s fault—and I have been afraid of this, is whether the report will be made public is very uncertain. I have been worried about this,” Kennedy told CNN’s John Berman.
“What I heard Mr. Barr say yesterday is that he hasn’t talked with Mr. Rosenstein or Mr. Mueller,” he said. “But his understanding is the Justice and FBI rules say Mr. Mueller will make a report to Mr. Barr and Mr. Barr will make some kind of report to Congress. But he was even uncertain on that.”
“I think it is really important that this report be made public. People are smart enough to figure it out,” he continued. “They heard so much about it and they have listened to the spin on both sides. This is an unusual circumstance and the American people need to see this report,” he concluded, specifying that he means the “original report.”
