DA suspends governorship candidate in Cross River for allegedly endorsing opponent in APC

- The gubernatorial candidate, Charles Offiong-Ephraim, was suspended on Tuesday, January 15, for endorsing Senator John Owan-Enoh, the All Progressives Congress flag-bearer in the state

- The party chairman in the state, Edet Bassey, said Ephraim's alleged activities would be investigated by a four-man committee, which would report back within one week

The Cross River state governorship candidate of the Democratic Alternative (DA), Charles Offiong-Ephraim, has been suspended for endorsing the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the state.

Punch reports that the party suspended its governorship flag-bearer on Tuesday, January 15, for endorsing Senator John Owan-Enoh of the APC.

Legit.ng notes that the chairman of DA in the state, Edet Bassey, said: "Our guber candidate has involved himself in illegal activity. Members of the party, especially the executive, were not aware and not part of the endorsement of another candidate on another platform. It was uncalled for.

“I, the state chairman of the party, was not aware of his endorsement of Senator John Owan-Enoh. What he did was unacceptable.”

According to him, after due consultation with the state DA executive, permission was obtained from the national headquarters of the party to suspend Ephraim.

He said Ephraim's alleged activities would be investigated by a four-man committee, which would report back within one week. Bassey said the party would take the next action after then.

Reacting to the allegation, the governorship candidate said: “I have nothing to say about it. I have been suspended,” he said and hurriedly left the venue of the meeting."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the Oyo state chapter of the African Democratic Party (ADP) reportedly suspended its chairman, Chief Folaranmi Owolabi, following an allegation of anti-party activities, misappropriation of party funds and unholy alliance with rival political parties among many others.

The letter of suspension was signed by the national vice chairman, southwest, Lati Arowosaye, and made available to the hierarchical organs of the party.

The letter was said to have been directed to inform Owolabi of his suspension that bothered on anti-party activities, divulgence of party's sensitive and classified information to rival political parties, misappropriation of party's funds, unholy alliance with rival political parties, using office to cause division and unhealthy rivalry within the rank and file of party's faithful, extorting candidates of the party for personal gains against the spirit of ethics of the party constitution among many others.

The leadership of the party directed Owolabi to handover all properties of the party in his possession to the state working committee who would await further instructions from the national leadership.

The suspension would last till further notice while the disciplinary committee of the party would look into the allegations levelled against the suspended chairman.
