Police commissioners, others storm Abuja to lobby acting IG

- The acting inspector general of police, Mohammed Adamu, has received hundreds of police commissioners, deputy commissioners and assistant commissioners at the Force headquarters

- Adamu's subordinates were said to have stormed the Force headquarters in Abuja to lobby the new police chief

- However, a police commissioner who craved anonymity says they were only in Abuja to pay homage and pledge loyalty to their boss

As Mohammed Adamu resumes duty acting inspector general of police, hundreds of police commissioners, deputy commissioners and assistant police commissioners on Wednesday, January, 16, stormed the Force headquarters to lobby the new police chief.

Punch reports that most of the deputy inspectors general of police would be leaving the service, which would create vacancies in the system.

Legit.ng gathers that some commissioners of police and assistant inspectors general of police would get accelerated promotions when some deputy inspectors general of police leave the service.

Administration, finance, housing, as well as procurement have been regarded as some of the juicy departments in the Force.

Report has it that prospective police commissioners prefer to be posted to Lagos, Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom and the Federal Capital Territory.

A police commissioner, who craved anonymity, said he alongside his colleagues were only in Abuja to pay homage and pledge loyalty to the acting inspector general of police.

He said: "I am here to pay homage to my new boss and pledge my loyalty. I am not here to lobby anybody.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) expressed confidence that the appointment of Adamu Abubakar Mohammed as acting Inspector General of Police is pleasant saying it would bring professionalism and true leadership to policing in the country.

NGF in a statement by Abdulrazaque Bello-Barkindo, head, media and public affairs, said the new IGP had personal accomplishments, having occupied the office of the director of peace keeping operations and other positions.

The statement read: “Until his appointment, he was at the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) as a directing staff. Adamu Mohammed Lafia is reputed to be a man of impeccable character.

“Apart from heading police formations at their most strategic levels in Nigeria, Adamu Mohammed Lafia had also risen to the apex of international policing in Lyon France, where he rose through the hierarchy of the organization to ascend the exalted position of the Vice President of INTERPOL, a position he held for years with distinction.”
