Hearn: Can’t criticize Khan for picking Crawford over Brook

Eddie Hearn admits he would’ve rather seen Amir Khan fight Kell Brook than Terence Crawford, but says you can’t call it a duck.

Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn was certain that when Amir Khan signed a three-fight deal with his company that he could finally be able to stage a big dometic clash against rival Kell Brook. But an offer from Top Rank to face Terence Crawford for his WBO world title swiftly derailed those plans.

Speaking to Sky Sports on Khan’s decision, Hearn admits that he’s not thrilled that Khan chose Crawford over Brook, but says Khan’s decision is pretty understandable.

“We talked about money in the last conversation. There was more money to fight Kell Brook than there was to fight Terence Crawford. You also can’t criticise Amir, because he’s fighting pound-for-pound one of the top fighters in world boxing and it’s a very tough fight.

”It’s a tougher fight than Kell Brook, so you can’t accuse him of ducking, but unfortunately if you ask people watching or at home who they would prefer to see him fight, of course the fight is Kell Brook.”

Since formally announcing his decision to face Crawford, Khan continues to maintain a fight with Brook could still potentially come afterwards, but Hearn is pessimistic that it will ever come to pass, standing by his ‘now or never’ claim.
