Iowa Columnist Sees One ‘Graceful’ Way Steve King Could Step Down

A political columnist for the Des Moines Register, the largest newspaper in Iowa, said Wednesday that she doesn’t expect Rep. Steve King (R-IA) to resign over the condemnation to his recent white supremacy comments.

“My gut feeling is no, that he won’t resign,” Kathie Obradovich told CNN. “I wonder — one graceful way for him to exit would be for Trump to give him a job in his administration. And he might actually like that move. And if Donald Trump doesn’t want to throw him under the bus, maybe he’s gonna find him a job. That’s the way I see him leaving — or losing a primary, he’s got some Republican opponents already — not quitting.”

Republican leaders have condemned King’s recent comments, and have stripped King of his committee assignments. The House on Tuesday passed a disapproval resolution against King, who recently told the New York Times that he doesn’t understand how the term “white supremacist” became so offensive.
