Pelosi: Trump Can Deliver SOTU ‘From The Oval Office If He Wants’

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) offered President Trump an option for his State of the Union address after she asked him in a letter to postpone the event until the government is reopened, citing security issues: Do it from the Oval Office.

“We’ve never really had a State of the Union when the government is shutdown,” she told reporters Wednesday before outlining the security risk of having nearly all the leaders of the federal government in the same room without the proper security staff — who have been furloughed — or preparation. “This is a housekeeping matter in the commons of the United States so we can honor the responsibility of the invitation we extended to the President. He can make it from the Oval Office if he wants.”

Pelosi, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Trump are locked in a stalemate over Trump’s hardline demands for a border wall, which has kept the government partially shutdown for nearly a month.
