The positive outcome in Rahaf’s case often eludes the thousands of women and children who become undocumented or non-status in Canada after fleeing domestic abuse. There are an estimated 20,000 to 200,000 individuals in Canada who don’t have legal immigration papers. And many of them have stories similar to Rahaf’s.
