We all have moments where we struggle to find the right words, appropriate phrase, mots justes. Today we usually turn to the internet, but 200 years ago there was no such assistance available. That was until Peter Mark Roget compiled a list of words and some alternatives and published it in 1852 under the title “Dr Roget’s Thesaurus Of English Words And Phrases Classified And Arranged So As To Facilitate The Expression Of Ideas And Assist in Literary Composition”. The book was an immediate success, the title was later shortened to Roget’s Thesaurus, and can still be found in millions of homes and libraries around the world.
